#23 Is this really the end? Or just the beginning ...

Aha - the end..... I did feel very pushed for time while doing this so have to admit that I approached some tasks with a grumpy mind. Having said that, I have had my mind opened to a whole wealth of useful stuff out there...most of them free which is in keeping with a Librarian's vision of information etc..

#22 Audiobooks (or "The end is in sight ")

Browsed the Children's book collection on the World Ebook Fair. Those pictures are amazing. What a great way to access these rare old books without damaging the originals...

#21 Podcasts, Smodcasts!

Spent some time searching for podcasts about Veronica Mars. Found quite a lot which is gratifying. Lots of people talking about their favourite TV I suppose. Couldn't get them to work on my work computer though........ Things like book and poetry readings would be great for a library setting, for those who can't read etc....

Managed to subscribe to TVaddict in my Bloglines account. Hours of pointless listening to be had!!!

#20 You too can YouTube

Tried to embed this VM video but doesn't seem to be working............

#19 Discovering Web 2.0 tools

Downloaded Picasa but found that it wouldn't import my photos for some reason. Then, as a last resort, I read the Help - and it helped!!! It was exceptionally easy from there and some of the tools are quite sophisticated. Great that you can do this without spending money on Photoshop.... Spent a while looking at krazydad's mosaic pages....

#18 Web-based Apps: They're not just for desktops

#17 Playing around with PBWiki

I find it a bit confronting putting my blog out there for others. I suppose you get used to expressing opinions in this strange online world but I find it weird not having immediate response. I am happy to see another Veronica Mars fan out there!

#16 So what's in a Wiki?

Ah yes, this is what the Web should be about - being able to do something, contribute, make a difference. Like an actual community! I like the library wiki with the knitting web site info and a recipe for a craft activity and book reviews as well. This helps recreate the sort of lateral thinking that leads to great or unexpected discoveries. Wikis also mean constantly changing information. Book reviews are a natural application for libraries, also local special interest groups could be included - Local History etc.

#15 On Library 2.0 and Web 2.0

The article about steering away from potential Icebergs was interesting - especially the point about not relying on large "collections" anymore. This is a good point, but we also have to be careful not to assume that everyone has access to all new technologies. If we take away the print collection....do they go without altogether? Also, a complete focus on user guided services...yes of course this is what we try to do, up to a point, but surely the point of librarianship as a profession is that in many ways we know best??? That sounds arrogant but I think all great institutions are arrogant to some extent, and society needs these institutions for stability and comfort. Just a thought........
